48-Hour Deadline for Windows 10 Users to Enroll in Free Security Updates

Millions of Windows users with Windows 10 PCs are now at risk due to a looming deadline. The operating system is no longer supported, and users have only 48 hours left before their devices become vulnerable to viruses and malware.

However, this deadline does not mean that the security fixes will stop working. Users who enroll for Microsoft’s free extended security updates (ESU) are still eligible for October’s security patches, which they can receive until October 13, 2026. The ESU is available for free if users have a fully licensed Windows 10 PC and a Microsoft Account.

To access the ESU, users need to save their PC settings to OneDrive. Alternatively, they can buy the ESU for $30 plus taxes. For those living in the EU, there are slightly simpler options available.

While enrolling in the ESU is not mandatory, experts advise users to do so by next week’s fix release date to avoid security risks. Users with enterprise PCs may have more expensive but longer-term options available. The deadline serves as a reminder of the importance of staying up-to-date with security patches and maintenance.
