Flight delays and cancellations persist at the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport due to a federal mandate limiting airline traffic. As of Sunday, 81 flights were canceled and 134 delayed, according to flight tracking platform FlightAware. Officials reported 36 cancellations and 27 delays on their website.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has directed airlines to cut 4% of domestic flights to alleviate pressure on overwhelmed air traffic controllers affected by the federal government shutdown, now the longest in U.S. history. The FAA expects airlines to reduce a tenth of their domestic flights by November 14 if the shutdown continues.
Delta Airlines extended its travel waiver by five days, allowing passengers to rebook without paying fare differences. Many travelers have experienced delays and uncertainty at major airports like MSP, where federal workers are scarce due to the shutdown. Some, like Sopo Saley, who flew in from Dallas on Friday, may reassess their travel plans for several months due to concerns about getting stuck during flights.
