Prosecutor Lindsey Halligan and Attorney General Pam Bondi have pushed back against a judge’s suggestion that records of grand jury proceedings in the case against former FBI Director James Comey are “missing”. Halligan stated that her interactions with the grand jury were well-documented, but the gap between the end of the proceedings and when the indictment was presented to a magistrate judge is normal due to the unrecorded nature of the discussions.
Bondi also confirmed that she has reviewed all available transcripts after previously claiming to have done so. However, it’s unclear if this can address potential legal flaws with Halligan’s appointment as interim US attorney. Defense attorneys argue that Bondi lacked power to make the temporary appointment due to another attorney already being appointed for the same vacancy.
The case involves Comey and New York Attorney General Letitia James, both of whom have pleaded not guilty to charges related to alleged obstruction and false statements.
