A major piracy operation in Spain has been forced to shut down due to a joint effort from the Alliance for Creativity and Entertainment (ACE) and sports streaming service DAZN. Photocall, which illegally restreamed live TV channels from 60 countries, logged over 26 million visits in the past year.
The site provided unauthorized access to 1,127 TV channels, with Spain accounting for nearly 30% of its traffic. Mexico and Germany followed closely, each contributing around 6%. The shutdown is seen as a victory for ACE and DAZN in safeguarding rights and protecting fans from malware and fraud risks.
Interestingly, Photocall did not carry DAZN’s own channels but redistributed feeds from various rights partners, including MotoGP, Formula 1, Serie A, the NFL, and more. The alliance’s CEO, Oscar Vilda, welcomed the action as a way to “protect the value” of those rights. ACE’s executive vice president, Larissa Knapp, expressed her commitment to targeting illicit live streaming operations to protect rights-holders and legitimate services.
