The city of Fort Worth has purchased nearly 50 acres of undeveloped land along the Trinity River to conserve open spaces. The site, located at 5501 Randol Mill Road, is considered “very high-priority” and will add momentum to Mayor Mattie Parker’s Good Natured initiative, which aims to preserve 10,000 acres of green space by 2028.
The city has already saved over 600 acres of open space since the Good Natured initiative took effect in 2023. The land deal furthers the program’s goal by preserving a unique environment with riparian tree canopy and proximity to waterways. The site will be used for trail-oriented development, such as kayak rentals or launches, to support recreation along the Trinity River.
Fort Worth’s conservation efforts have been ongoing since 2019, when rapid population growth led to urban sprawl causing the city to lose 50 acres of land to development each week. The city’s updated parks and recreation master plan prioritizes preserving open space to expand community access to natural areas.
This purchase is part of the city’s continued efforts to conserve parkland and green spaces, including recent buys near the Fort Worth Nature Center & Refuge, Lake Arlington, and the Tandy Hills Natural Area.
