Marjorie Taylor Greene Resigns from Congress Amid Trump Feud

US Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene announced her resignation from office on Friday, citing souring relations with President Donald Trump. The 5th January 2026 date marks the end of her legislative career, which saw a significant shift in recent months as she became a vocal critic of the administration’s policies.

Greene initially supported Trump’s Make America Great Again movement and credited him for inspiring her to run for Congress in 2020. However, over recent months, she criticized Trump’s administration on several issues, including his support for Israel, expiring Obamacare subsidies, and releasing files related to Jeffrey Epstein.

In a four-page statement, Greene stated that the legislative branch had been “sidelined” and accused Republican leaders of refusing to advance conservative priorities like border security. She also expressed her concerns about the common American people’s power over Washington, indicating she would be available for their side in rebuilding it after leaving office.

Trump publicly called Greene a “traitor” but later stated that her resignation was “great news”, implying it didn’t matter whether he gave her notice or not. The departure leaves House Speaker Mike Johnson with a razor-thin majority.

Greene has been involved in controversies, including receiving warnings from private security firms due to threats and personal attacks on social media. She claimed that the most powerful man in the world was fueling these threats against her, but did not specify who it was.

Despite her resignation, Greene’s future plans remain unclear, with strategist Shermichael Singleton suggesting she might be looking at other opportunities. The controversy has left an impact on Greene’s district, where voters showed strong support for Trump despite her criticism of his administration.
