A public board designed to preserve local history, the Tarrant County Historical Commission, may have been influenced by behind-the-scenes political maneuvering and threats of retaliation. According to Alisa Simmons, a county commissioner, the commission’s leadership was influenced by County Judge Tim O’Hare in the weeks leading up to its recent election. Simmons alleges that O’Hare pressured historical commission members to decline nominations for leadership positions and pushed conservative-leaning members into board leadership. The commission is made up of 19 volunteers appointed by the Tarrant County Commissioners Court, which O’Hare leads. This incident raises concerns about political interference in the preservation of local history.
