Telangana Government Accused of Misusing Power in Allu Arjun Arrest

A woman died during the premiere of Allu Arjun’s film ‘Pushpa 2’ in Hyderabad, sparking a controversy over the arrest of the actor. According to an interactive voice response-based survey conducted by NDTV and Prashnam.ai, 34% of respondents believed that the Telangana government misused power in arresting Allu Arjun.

The incident occurred when thousands of fans gathered at the Sandhya Theatre to catch a glimpse of the actor. The police claim that Allu Arjun’s actions, including waving to the crowd from his vehicle, provoked the crowd and led to a stampede-like situation. However, the actor’s security team is also alleged to have pushed the crowd to clear a path for the vehicle.

The government registered a case against Allu Arjun, his security team, and the theatre management under different sections of the law. The Chief Minister defended the arrest, saying that “the law applies equally to all citizens, irrespective of their status.”

A survey found that 41% of respondents believed that the government did not handle the situation properly, while 33% thought it was legitimate. The actor has since been released on bail and expressed his condolences to the victim’s family.

The controversy also triggered a political slugfest between the BJP and BRS, with both parties criticizing the ruling Congress in Telangana. The victim’s husband, however, claimed that he did not find fault with Allu Arjun for the tragedy and was ready to withdraw his case over the incident.
