Apple is cutting jobs across several sales teams as part of its effort to remove overlapping responsibilities and reduce internal costs. The company has informed employees over the past two weeks that their roles will be affected, with some layoffs already taking place in Australia and New Zealand.
The restructuring comes as Apple’s revenue continues to rise, expected to reach nearly $140 billion in sales for the December quarter. Despite strong financials, Apple is looking to reduce operational expenses by relying more on third-party resellers.
Longtime employees with 20-30 years of experience are among those let go. The government sales team and enterprise sales operations are also seeing changes, with a new leader taking over all enterprise and education sales.
Apple has historically avoided mass layoffs but has already made cuts in projects related to self-driving cars and custom display technology this year. Other tech companies like Amazon and Meta Platforms are also undergoing cost restructuring, following Apple’s lead.
