Taylor Sheridan’s drama series “Landman” recently featured Texas Christian University (TCU), a private Fort Worth university that made a notable appearance in the episode. When Ainsley Norris, played by Michelle Randolph, exclaimed, “I’m a Horned Frog!”, her father Tommy Norris quipped about passing up public school and in-state tuition.
But how does TCU compare to other private universities? The average net price of TCU students is $39,005 for the 2022-23 school year, placing it in the middle among private universities. Harvard University, which guarantees meeting all financial needs, has an average net price of $17,900, while Tulane University costs $50,631.
TCU’s tuition has increased by 56% since 2016, and other private colleges have also raised their prices. However, most students do not pay the full sticker price due to scholarships, grants, and financial aid. In fact, about 80% of students receive some form of financial aid.
The total estimated cost of attendance for TCU is $88,140, including tuition, fees, room, and board. To help eligible Texas students, TCU has announced a new program offering free tuition, housing, and food cost assistance to Pell Grant recipients from low-income families. For those who will pay tuition, the university will increase need-based aid proportionally with tuition increases.
While rising tuition prices may be concerning for some, most students can receive financial aid to help cover costs. TCU’s approach to meeting demonstrated financial need and supporting access for students across income levels aims to make higher education more affordable.
