A 29-year-old Afghan national, Rahmanullah Lakanwal, has been charged with assault and firearm possession after shooting two National Guardsmen near the White House in Washington D.C. The victims, Army Spec. Sarah Beckstrom and Air Force Staff Sgt. Andrew Wolfe, remain critical. Authorities are investigating a possible motive behind the attack, which they describe as targeted. Lakanwal, who worked for CIA-organized counterterrorism squad “Zero Units,” was resettled in the US after his work with the CIA in Afghanistan. The FBI has executed search warrants nationwide, including at Lakanwal’s last-known residence in Washington state.
