Poop Scanner’s End-to-End Encryption Claim Dubious at Best

A new toilet attachment, Dekoda, claims to be end-to-end encrypted, but a privacy expert says it doesn’t meet the definition. Simon Fondrie-Teitler, a software engineer and former FTC technology advisor, found that the company only uses HTTPS encryption between the app and server, not true end-to-end encryption. The user data is also stored on the company’s systems and used for machine learning purposes. The expert suggests updating the language to provide clearer privacy protections, rather than misleading users with a false sense of security.
