Android 16 Updates Introduce AI-Powered Notifications & Parental Controls

Google has announced several new features for its upcoming Android 16 update, including AI-powered notification summaries and built-in parental controls. The updates will initially roll out to eligible Pixel devices.

The new features aim to improve user experience and offer more convenience. AI-powered message summaries and a notification organizer will help users quickly understand their notifications, while the built-in parental controls will enable parents to monitor their child’s screen time and app usage.

In addition to these features, Android 16 will also introduce custom icon shapes, themed icons, and an expanded dark theme. The company claims that the latter should improve battery life.

Other updates include Circle To Search, which uses AI to detect spam messages, and Google Messages that will send alerts when an unknown number sends a group invite. There’s also a beta test for Call Reason, which allows users to mark calls as “urgent” with a saved contact.

Furthermore, Android is introducing Pinned Tabs on Chrome for Android, making it easier to access saved tabs. Expressive Captions are also coming, which will analyze a person’s emotion in a video, even if the sound is turned off. These captions will also be available on YouTube as part of Android’s accessibility updates.

Additionally, Google is improving accessibility with features like Fast Pair for hearing aids and Guided Frame with Gemini, which provides descriptions of what’s visible in the Pixel camera app.
