Marquis Software Solutions Discloses Data Breach Affecting 400,000 Banks and Credit Unions

Marquis Software Solutions, which provides data analytics and other services to over 700 banks and credit unions, has revealed a data breach that impacted dozens of institutions across the US. The breach occurred on August 14, 2025, after hackers exploited a SonicWall firewall vulnerability.

According to the company’s notifications filed with the US Attorney General offices, hackers stole personal information from certain business customers, including names, addresses, phone numbers, Social Security numbers, and financial account details. Over 400,000 customers have been affected by this breach, which involves 74 banks and credit unions across various states.

Marquis has taken steps to reduce the risk of future incidents, including patching its firewall devices, rotating passwords, and implementing multi-factor authentication. However, experts warn that SonicWall firewalls remain a target for hackers, particularly Akira ransomware gang.

The breach highlights the need for better security measures and the importance of breaking down identity and access management (IAM) silos to prevent such incidents.
