Swiss software company Proton has launched Proton Sheets, an end-to-end encrypted spreadsheet app that helps businesses protect their data from being used for AI model training. The new app offers familiar spreadsheet functionality like data visualizations and formulas, but with added security features.
Proton Sheets is “private-by-default,” meaning user information and metadata are secure and can only be accessed with permission. This is a significant improvement over traditional spreadsheet tools, which often collect user data to train AI models.
The launch of Proton Sheets aims to address the growing concern that businesses’ data will be used for AI model training without their consent. Anant Vijay Singh, head of product at Proton Drive, says this is an “unacceptable trade-off” and Proton Sheets provides a “robust, privacy-first alternative.”
Proton Sheets is now available to Proton Drive free and paid plans, offering a secure and private way for businesses to manage their data.
