Microsoft has clarified that its new Teams location tracking feature is an opt-in experience, disabled by default. The company initially described the feature as automatically setting a user’s work location to reflect the building they connect to, but changed its description after backlash. This comes as Microsoft pushes its return-to-office (RTO) plan, citing employees tend to work best when collaborating in person. With many users expressing concern over the feature, it remains to be seen if Microsoft will use it to track employee performance and adherence to the RTO mandate.
