Attorney General Pam Bondi has issued a memo directing the FBI to expand its operations targeting alleged domestic terrorists. The directive aims to broaden the scope of people who can be detained under the new blueprint and includes measures to encourage public reporting and reward tips that lead to successful identification and arrest of suspected individuals.
The memo orders the FBI to compile a list of groups or entities engaged in acts that may constitute domestic terrorism, establish a cash reward system for citizens to report suspicious activity, and revise its Digital Media Tipline to allow citizen journalists to submit media documentation online. Those who have participated in violent efforts against Immigration and Customs Enforcement or targeted Supreme Court justices are now scrutinized by the government.
Bondi’s memo states that political violence has no place in the country and will be investigated, identified, and rooted out. The Department of Justice will prioritize this threat and work to establish cooperators to provide information and testify against domestic terrorist organizations.
This development comes after President Donald Trump authorized actions to root out domestic terrorism, citing assassination attempts, unrest, and attacks on law enforcement facilities. The memo marks a significant extension of the government’s blueprint to squelch suspected domestic terrorism and highlights the increased threat posed by alleged domestic terrorists.
