Fallout season 2 premieres soon, and fans of sci-fi will have to wait until April 2026 for another hit series. Meanwhile, Prime Video has a fantastic sci-fi show that’s worth binge-watching – Tales from the Loop. Based on a phenomenal novel by Swedish artist Simon Stålenhag, this eight-episode series takes place in a mysterious town called Mercer, Ohio, where an underground physics facility known as the “Loop” creates strange scientific phenomena.
The story follows the lives of Mercer residents, including Russ (Jonathan Pryce), his son George (Paul Schneider), and George’s wife Loretta (Rebecca Hall). Unlike other sci-fi shows with a Big Bad villain, Tales from the Loop explores universal existential questions in an artfully constructed setting. The show boasts powerful performances from its cast and takes a slow-burning approach.
Tales from the Loop is adapted from Stålenhag’s 2014 art book of the same name and was created by Nathaniel Halpern. While there were differences between the source material and the series, Prime Video did an excellent job of capturing the essence of the story. The show uses scientific concepts as a backdrop to tell authentic character-driven stories.
Despite being one of Prime Video’s most underrated series, Tales from the Loop is a must-watch for true sci-fi fans. With its rich world-building and powerful performances, this hidden gem is worth checking out.
