Venezuela’s State Oil Company Hacked in Cyberattack Disrupting Operations

Venezuela’s state-owned oil company PDVSA was hit by a cyberattack over the weekend. The attack targeted some administrative systems but did not impact its operations.

PDVSA claims that security protocols prevented disruptions to supply and exports, saying it was an attempt by foreign interests, specifically the US, to seize Venezuelan oil. The company denies any operational disruption and says the attack only affected its administrative systems.

Following the attack, PDVSA instructed employees to shut down computers, disconnect external devices, and disable WiFi and Starlink services. Security at facilities has also been reinforced.
