Nintendo is expected to release the next-generation console, the Switch 2, in March 2025. According to recent leaks, here are six major rumored changes that may feature in the new console.
The Switch 2 will have an 8-inch display, larger than the original Nintendo Switch’s screens, which were 6.2 inches and 7 inches respectively. The console is also expected to upgrade its storage from 32GB to 512GB onboard, providing users with more space for their games without having to juggle files between the console and cloud.
Backward compatibility will be a key feature of the Switch 2, allowing users to play existing Switch games on the new console. The console will also support 4K gaming while docked. Additionally, the Joy-Con controllers are expected to have revamped magnetic components, connecting them directly to the Switch 2, which may lead to incompatibility with older accessories.
The Switch 2 will launch with Mario Kart 9 as its flagship game. Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa has confirmed that users will be able to transfer their existing Nintendo Account between consoles, making for a seamless transition.
Other rumored upgrades include redesigned controllers, an auxiliary button on the right controller, and different LED placement. The exact design of the Switch 2 remains unclear, but it’s expected to have a more premium feel than its predecessor.
