Rep. Ro Khanna (D-California) and Rep. Thomas Massie (R-Kentucky) plan to hold Attorney General Pam Bondi in contempt of Congress due to the Justice Department’s slow release of documents related to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. The two lawmakers want to find a way to get justice for Epstein’s victims by bringing inherent contempt against Bondi, which would require her to release all remaining records.
The law requires the Justice Department to release certain documents, including grand jury testimony and investigative records, but it has taken weeks to redact and release these files. Khanna is concerned about “selective concealment” of records related to Epstein’s crimes and wants to see specific documents, such as a 60-count federal indictment from 2007.
Bondi’s top aide said he doesn’t take seriously the threats, calling them ” Bring it on”. However, many lawmakers from both parties have criticized the Justice Department’s slow response, with Sen. Rand Paul saying that any evidence of incomplete release will plague the administration for months to come.
The Justice Department has temporarily removed some files, including a photo of Donald Trump posing with bikini-clad women, but later reposted them without alteration. The department released one file on Sunday, a 119-page grand jury document, after facing criticism.
