Chinese President Xi Jinping is gaining upper hand in talks with Donald Trump before their summit on March 31. The Supreme Court has invalidated the US tariffs imposed by Trump, eliminating his ability to quickly raise them for any reason. As a result, China can now face only one set of tariffs, equivalent to what other US allies pay – at 15% and expiring in 150 days. This shift in power dynamics leaves Beijing more favorable than when Trump’s tariffs were imposed before.
