Hollywood Denies Overuse of AI in Film Production

Hollywood insiders claim studios are using more AI in film production than they let on. Janice Min, a former editor of Hollywood Reporter and CEO of Ankler Media, believes companies are exaggerating the capabilities of their products. She notes that many screenwriters use AI tools to help with tasks like writing scripts and even researching accents.

However, some critics argue that AI’s impact is overstated. The lack of controversy surrounding AI in recent Oscar-winning films might be due to a lack of transparency from studios. But Janice Min thinks the opposite is true: “I dare you to find a screenwriter who isn’t using some form of AI.”

Despite the claims, it’s unlikely that all screenwriters use AI-powered chatbots like ChatGPT for scriptwriting. Many AI-generated videos and videos are created with deepfaked celebrities, but these might be more entertainment than evidence of widespread AI use in Hollywood.

The AI industry itself is sometimes prone to hyperbole, as seen in the overreaction to viral “AI-generated” content. It’s essential to separate fact from fiction when discussing the role of AI in film production.
