Artificial intelligence (AI) is changing the job market, but a new study by Anthropic suggests that many white-collar roles are at risk. The company has developed an early warning system to track which jobs in the US are most exposed to AI.
Anthropic’s researchers found that while AI has had little measurable impact on employment so far, it could have a significant effect in the future. They identified 10 professions as being most exposed to AI, including computer programmers, customer service reps, and sales reps.
The study also found that jobs with tasks easily replaced by AI are more likely to be affected, while others require physical abilities and are less vulnerable to automation. The researchers warn that workers in these high-risk professions may face job insecurity due to the rise of generative AI tools.
Anthropic’s findings align with previous research on women-dominated occupations being vulnerable to AI, but suggest a broader impact on many professions.
