Dan Trachtenberg’s New Take on Predator Brings Fresh Success

Director Dan Trachtenberg has changed the game for the Predator franchise with a fresh perspective. He took the 1987 classic and transformed it into a character-driven survival-horror movie, giving old fans and new ones alike something to love.

Trachtenberg’s journey in the Predator universe began with the prequel Prey, which became a massive hit on Hulu. He then followed up with an animated anthology movie Killers of Killers and the first theatrical entry in years, Predator: Badlands.

The movie tells the story of Dek, a young Yautja outcast who must prove himself worthy of the hunt by killing an apex predator, leading him to form an unlikely alliance with Thia, a Weyland-Yutani android.

Badlands received universal praise for its VFX and effects, Elle Fanning’s performance, and its focus on Yautja culture and language. The movie has spent over 50 days on the Amazon top 10 charts and 21 days on Disney+, a feat considering both platforms have a vast streaming catalog.

Now that Badlands is out, many are wondering if another Predator movie is in the works. Trachtenberg recently cleared doubts when he said he’s “dreaming up more” while working at Paramount, indicating that there may be original ideas in the making.

For now, fans can stream Predator: Badlands on Disney+ via Hulu, with a runtime of 107 minutes and directed by Dan Trachtenberg.
