A US-based betting platform, Kalshi, has refused to pay out $54 million to users who wagered on the death of Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. The decision was made after the Ayatollah died in an aerial strike, but the platform claims it doesn’t allow bets “directly tied to death.” Despite reimbursing all bettors at even odds, many are outraged and taking their business elsewhere. Some have accused the company of prioritizing “optical moral high ground” over fair payouts.
