A Baltimore mother, Yolanda Wilkes, 42, and her daughter, 14, are at the center of a controversy after the teenager allegedly hit a police officer with her car. The girl claimed she “caught a body” when she collided with Officer William Cole, but her mother later told health care workers that her daughter had fallen off a scooter. Wilkes is now facing charges for covering up physical evidence and contributing to her minor’s delinquency.
Wilkes’ actions allegedly destroyed the jacket worn by her daughter during the incident and failed to report the bullet found in their laundry. The 14-year-old girl was released on electronic monitoring, while her two male accomplices were also arrested. Baltimore State’s Attorney Ivan Bates vows to prosecute parents who interfere with justice, citing that it can “protect” teens from more serious consequences later on.
