Cannabis Use Not Proven to Help Mental Health Conditions

Despite widespread use of marijuana for mental health purposes, a new study found little to no high-quality evidence supporting its effectiveness in treating symptoms of anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), or depression. The review, published in the medical journal The Lancet Psychiatry, analyzed over 50 clinical trials and concluded that cannabis is not a reliable treatment for these conditions. However, low-quality evidence suggested some benefits for insomnia, autism, and tic disorders. Researchers emphasize the need for further research on cannabis medicines and caution against routine use of medical cannabis products for mental health disorders due to potential risks.
