Dan Campbell Blames Himself for Detroit Lions’ Loss to Buffalo Bills

Detroit Lions head coach Dan Campbell took full responsibility for his team’s 48-42 loss to the Buffalo Bills on Sunday. “I didn’t have those guys ready to go, not like that,” Campbell said in a postgame press conference. He acknowledged that some players performed below expectations and attributed it to him as their leader.

Campbell also refused to make excuses about the team’s injuries, which included four missing top linebackers and several other defensive players on injured reserve. The Lions trailed 48-28 with just 12 minutes remaining after a failed onside kick attempt. Campbell opted for an onside kick despite criticism from some players earlier in the week.

“I’m not buying it,” Campbell said when asked if injuries were to blame for the loss. Instead, he focused on the team’s effort and performance, saying that “we can be better” and should have played a more urgent game against the Bills. The Lions will look to bounce back from the loss in their next game in Chicago.
