The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) is facing a severe staffing shortage, leaving travelers concerned about long wait times at US airports during the upcoming World Cup. Acting head of TSA Ha Nguyen McNeill warned Congress that new hires won’t be ready to work checkpoints until after the 2026 World Cup, citing a “perfect storm” of staffing shortages and millions of passengers expected for the event. With $1 billion in unpaid wages for workers due to the partial government shutdown, McNeill described the situation as “dire.”
