US President Donald Trump has extended his initial five-day pause on strikes against Iranian energy facilities by another 10 days, until April 6, 2026. This move comes as the US and Iran engage in high-level talks to discuss a potential peace deal.
The talks are being mediated by Pakistan, Egypt, and Turkey, with the US proposing a 15-point action list that forms the framework for a peace agreement. White House envoy Steve Witkoff said “talks are ongoing” and “going very well,” but added that Iran’s top leadership has yet to make a decision on participating in a meeting with the US.
Iranian officials have expressed interest in negotiations, but mistrust remains a major issue. The mediators are pressing Tehran to agree to a high-level meeting, but Iranian officials claim their country’s leaders have not made a final decision.
The delay gives both sides more time to negotiate and potentially avoid a dramatic military escalation, particularly if the Strait of Hormuz remains closed.
