Russia Deploys 10,000 North Korean Troops in Kursk Oblast

Russian forces are launching an intensive offensive in Kursk Oblast, with Ukrainian troops on the defensive. According to Oleksandr Syrskyi, Commander-in-Chief of Ukraine’s military, Russian forces have been actively using North Korean units since early August.

Russia has deployed over 10,000 North Korean troops to support their efforts. Despite this, Ukrainian forces are reportedly holding their ground, destroying personnel and equipment. However, the Ukrainian army is facing significant challenges, including a Russian advantage in manpower and equipment.

The full extent of North Korean losses is unclear, as President Volodymyr Zelensky claims Russia is trying to hide the casualties. Ukraine has reported killing 50 North Korean soldiers and injuring 47 more in Kursk Oblast over the past three days.

Ukrainian forces are under pressure, with estimates suggesting they may have lost around half of the territory captured during the initial phase of the operation. This loss is attributed to the redeployment of elite units that spearheaded the Russian offensive.

The situation could be a bargaining chip in potential peace negotiations ahead, as Ukraine seeks to hold onto a piece of Russian territory.
