Microsoft has released the KB5079391 preview cumulative update for Windows 11, including 29 changes such as Smart App Control and Display improvements. The update is part of the non-security preview schedule, which tests new features and fixes before they are included in the next month’s Patch Tuesday.
The update includes a set of improvements to the Windows 11 Smart App Control security feature, allowing customers to toggle it on or off without reinstalling the operating system. Microsoft has also made Display reliability improvements, such as support for monitors reporting refresh rates higher than 1000 Hz and native USB4 monitor connections.
Key features of the update include:
* Improved stability in Windows Recovery Environment (Windows RE) when running x64 apps on ARM64 devices
* Reliability of downloading required updates when prompted in Settings > System > Advanced
* Improved reliability of Windows Hello Fingerprint on certain devices
* Design improvements to dialog boxes in Settings > Accounts > Other users
The update is available for download from the Microsoft Update Catalog or by checking for updates through Settings. However, it’s an optional update and users will be asked if they want to install it.
