The highly anticipated animated film based on the hit Australian series “Bluey” is set for a global theatrical release in 2027. BBC Studios and Walt Disney Studios have partnered to bring the movie to theaters worldwide, followed by availability on Disney+ and streaming services in Australia.
The film is written and directed by Joe Brumm, the creator of the show, and features voice talent from the series, including Melanie Zanetti and David McCormack. Series composer Joff Bush will provide the score, while Richard Jeffrey and Amber Naismith co-direct and produce the movie.
According to a press release, the film will continue the adventures of Bluey, a lovable blue heeler dog who lives with her family. Since its 2018 premiere, “Bluey” has become a global phenomenon, winning Emmy and BAFTA awards and becoming the most-watched series worldwide on Disney+ in 2024.
Creator Joe Brumm expressed his excitement about bringing the show to the big screen, saying it’s an “experiential event for the whole family to enjoy together.” The film will be executive produced by Ludo Studio and BBC Studios, with a team of over fifty artists and producers who have shaped the beloved series.
Disney Entertainment co-chairs Alan Bergman and Dana Walden praised “Bluey” for uniting families around the world with its heartfelt stories, stating they’re proud to expand their partnership to bring the magic of the show to the big screen.
