Artemis II Crew Set for Pacific Splashdown Amid Favorable Weather Conditions

The Orion spacecraft, carrying the Artemis II crew, is expected to splash down in the Pacific Ocean off the coast of San Diego on Friday. The successful recovery depends on favorable weather conditions, including wave heights less than 6 feet and winds not exceeding 28 mph.

Forecasters are monitoring a Pacific storm system approaching the West Coast, but conditions for the splashdown window remain favorable. NASA has scheduled the splashdown time for 5:07 p.m. PDT on April 10, with the spacecraft entering Earth’s atmosphere just before the top of the hour and landing in the ocean minutes later.

Residents near San Diego might hear a sonic boom as the spacecraft enters the atmosphere, while crew members will experience high-speed reentry, slowing down to around 17 mph upon landing. NASA plans to confirm the exact landing time and approximate location on Thursday.
