Kingston Rumi Southwick can’t wait for the second season of Apple TV’s horror comedy series “Widow’s Bay”. The 18-year-old actor plays Evan, son to Matthew Rhys’ Tom in the show. Southwick says it was a “dream come true” for him to be a part of the project.
The show, created by Katie Dippold, is set in a fictional and cursed New England island town. It centers around Tom, the town’s mayor, played by Matthew Rhys. Since its April premiere, the show has gained momentum both critically and in viewing.
Southwick was drawn to the show’s tone, which he describes as “tough” but effective. The actor recalls reading the script for the first time and feeling a strong connection to it. He praises Dippold’s ability to strike a balance between horror and humor, making the show feel original and fresh.
Filming in Massachusetts helped Southwick get into the mindset of being in a haunted sea town. The show moved between soundstages and location shoots to capture the authentic atmosphere. Southwick points out that the set design is impressive, with details like Richard Warren’s headless body looking remarkably real.
The father-son relationship between Evan and Tom drives Evan’s story forward. Southwick notes that playing a character with unspoken emotions requires emotional intelligence, something he wishes he had growing up. He hopes to evolve his character further in the upcoming season and explore more comedic possibilities.
For Southwick, playing Evan has been a dream come true, allowing him to ease into comedic work after mostly working on dramas. The actor is excited about the opportunities for Evan’s character in season 2, including getting into crazy and funny situations.
