23-Year-Old Engineer Walks Away from Google for New Venture

Aashna Doshi, a 23-year-old former Google engineer, reveals that her biggest career risk was not leaving the company but staying in a stable role. She shares her journey of transitioning from coding alone to creating something she fully owns through building an AI startup and growing a podcast.

Aashna received a full-time offer from Google during her time at Georgia Tech, but chose to start her career in New York instead. She worked for a few months before securing another Google role that allowed her to work in the city. However, as she delved deeper into her work, she felt limited to engineering tasks and began exploring new ideas outside of her job.

She started a podcast called “0 to 1” with another engineer, which gained traction and connected them with senior leaders from top companies. This success sparked Aashna’s desire to start something of her own. She left Google in May to focus on her startup, Bounty, an AI-based marketplace where companies can post tasks and pay only when results are delivered.

Aashna acknowledges that leaving Google came with financial uncertainty, but she feels confident about her decision. She believes staying in a stable job without trying something new would have been more difficult for her in the long run. Looking back, Aashna says the scarier version of this decision wasn’t leaving Google, but staying and always wondering what could have been.
