“Heat Wave to Hit Eastern US Next Week”

A powerful heat wave is expected to hit the eastern half of the United States next week, bringing extremely high temperatures that could last through Independence Day celebrations. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) warns of temperatures in the 90s and low 100s, combined with high humidity, which will create heat indices over 105-110 degrees in many areas. Overnight lows will also be unusually warm, making it difficult for people to find relief from the heat at night. Cities such as Minneapolis, Chicago, Nashville, and Atlanta are under extreme heat risk. The heat wave could have serious consequences on vulnerable populations, healthcare systems, industries, and infrastructure. Additionally, research has linked this heat wave to climate change, which is exacerbating extreme weather events globally.
