Snowmanning: A Festive Fling Risk?

Returning home for Christmas can be a thrilling experience, especially for singles looking to let loose. However, with the stress and nostalgia of holidays past, some individuals are taking things to an extreme – literally.

Snowmanning, a term coined by doctors, refers to casual hookups that get out of hand during the holiday season. According to Everywell’s survey, 60% of respondents planned to engage in casual sex when returning home for Christmas. While there’s nothing wrong with these relationships, experts are warning about the risks.

Relationship expert Rachel Lloyd notes that initial chemistry can wear off quickly, leaving individuals vulnerable to regret and potential health issues. The UK Health Security Agency reported an increase in sexually transmitted infections (STIs) earlier this year, prompting doctors to stress the importance of planning ahead with contraception and open communication with partners.

Dr. Crystal Wyllie, a GP at Asda Online Doctor, advises singles to prioritize their safety during the festive season. “December is a time for celebration and connection,” she says. “However, it’s essential to stay informed about sexual health.” The NHS recommends using condoms during vaginal, anal, or oral sex to reduce the risk of STIs.

As Christmas approaches, singles are advised to balance fun with caution and prioritize their safety above all else.
