Supreme Court Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson Makes Broadway Debut

Supreme Court Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson made history on December 14 when she appeared in a one-night-only role in the hit musical & Juliet at the Stephen Sondheim Theatre. This was her first time on Broadway, fulfilling a childhood dream she expressed in her Harvard application essays.

The show, which explores an alternate ending to Romeo and Juliet, features a diverse cast, including Maya Boyd as Juliet and Paulo Szot as Romeo. Jackson’s role was a result of her interest in theatre, which she discussed in her memoir Lovely One.

The musical & Juliet has been a hit since its opening on November 17, 2022, and has received nine Tony Award nominations, including Best Musical. The show features a mix of popular songs, such as “Since U Been Gone” and “Roar.”

With her Harvard background and passion for theatre, Jackson brought her unique perspective to the stage. Her Broadway debut will surely be remembered as a significant moment in her illustrious career.
