Ivy League Enters FCS Playoffs Starting 2025

The Ivy League has announced it will begin participating in the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) playoffs starting with the 2025 season. The decision marks a significant change for the league, which has traditionally competed in NCAA championships in other sports but not football postseason games.

The FCS has hosted a championship tournament since 1978, and the Ivy League will join forces with its student-athletes for the first time. The participation is a result of efforts initiated by the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), which proposed the idea last year.

“Ivy League prides itself on impact, influence, and competitive success in college football,” said Executive Director Robin Harris. “We’re excited to enhance student-athlete experiences with our FCS playoff participation.”

Advisory Committee Chair Mason Shipp, a Yale senior wide receiver, authored the proposal that led to the decision. The league will develop tiebreakers for future co-champion situations, ensuring a clear automatic qualifier.

The 2024 season saw Columbia, Dartmouth, and Harvard share the Ivy League title. With the addition of FCS playoffs, the league aims to provide more opportunities for its student-athletes.
