SpaceX Granted Permission for Seventh Starship Launch

SpaceX has received approval from regulators to launch its Starship spacecraft for the seventh time, although a specific date for the mission remains unclear. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) granted the permission, allowing multiple launches under the new approval as long as the mission profile and vehicle configuration remain unchanged.

The FAA also approved “damage exceptions” that would prevent a mishap investigation in case of certain issues during the launch or landing process. These exceptions cover problems such as engine failure or damage to the thermal shield, which could expedite the return to launch if not causing serious injury.

This is the first time the FAA’s license modification has been granted without an immediate launch date announcement, showcasing the regulator’s efforts to increase efficiency in licensing determinations. SpaceX had previously complained about “superfluous” regulatory delays affecting its Starship test program.

The Starship rocket stands at nearly 400 feet tall and produces 3.3 million pounds of thrust upon takeoff. It is the centerpiece of CEO Elon Musk’s plan to make humans multi-planetary, with an uncrewed mission to Mars aiming for as early as 2026.
