PS5 Tops Sales Charts, Switch Surpasses PS2 Lifetime Sales

The PlayStation 5 (PS5) remains the best-selling console in the US for November 2024, with both units sold and dollar sales leading the charge, according to data from Circana (formerly The NPD Group). The Nintendo Switch took second place in terms of units sold and dollar sales, while the Xbox Series X|S came in third.

In terms of dollar sales, the PS5 saw a 15% year-on-year increase, while the Switch’s sales decreased by 3%, and the Xbox Series X|S’ sales dropped by 29%. The Switch has now surpassed the PlayStation 2 with lifetime sales of 46.6 million units, making it the second-best-selling hardware platform in US history.

The PS5 Pro was a significant contributor to the console’s success in November, accounting for 19% of total PS5 sales and 28% of dollar sales. The new model saw unit sales that were 12% lower than the PlayStation 4 Pro but had dollar sales over 50% higher.

Overall spending on video games in November decreased by 7% year-on-year, from $6.17 billion to $5.76 billion. Spending on hardware increased less than 1%, while accessories saw a 4% increase. For the first 11 months of 2024, overall spending on video games is up less than 1% year-on-year.

The top-selling game in November was Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, followed by EA Sports College Football 25 and Madden NFL 25. The best-selling accessory for November was the PlayStation Portal.

The Nintendo Switch’s dominance in sales continues to be a notable trend, with the console now surpassing the PlayStation 2 in lifetime sales.
