In a significant shift, the Ivy League’s football teams will now compete for FCS national championships starting from the 2025 season. The change comes after a proposal by Ivy League student-athletes, which was approved by the league council of presidents.
The Ivy League executive director, Robin Harris, stated that the league aims to enhance the student-athlete experience and looks forward to a new chapter in competitive success. With this move, football will be the only sport where Ivy League teams can compete for NCAA national championships.
The 2024 season saw Columbia, Dartmouth, and Harvard share the Ivy League title. The league will now develop tiebreakers to determine how its automatic qualifier will be awarded when there are co-champions in the future.
