Warren Calls on Trump to Set Conflict-of-Interest Rules for Elon Musk

Senator Elizabeth Warren is urging President-elect Donald Trump to establish conflict-of-interest rules for Tesla CEO and Trump ally Elon Musk. In a letter to Trump’s transition team, Warren warned that Musk’s influential role in the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) could lead to “corruption on a scale not seen in our lifetimes.”

Musk is set to play a key role in the new administration as co-lead with former GOP presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy. Together, they aim to cut $2 trillion from the federal budget. However, Warren believes that without strict conflict-of-interest rules, Musk’s involvement could be tainted by personal gain.

Warren pointed out that Trump has spent millions of dollars on campaign contributions, including over $250 million from Elon Musk himself, and accused Musk of whispering advice that may not be in the country’s best interest. In response to Warren’s criticism, Trump spokesperson Karoline Leavitt defended Musk’s influence and criticized Warren as a “career politician” who has less impact than Musk.

The lack of transparency on Musk’s involvement with the administration is a major concern for Warren, who believes that it could lead to corruption and undermine public trust. With Musk set to have significant sway over government contracts and regulatory enforcement, establishing clear conflict-of-interest rules is crucial to prevent potential abuses of power.
