Minnesota Reports Increase in Whooping Cough Cases

Minnesota health officials have reported an increase in whooping cough cases, prompting concerns about the safety of schools and communities. The state’s Department of Health said that between April 2022 and March 2023, there were over 500 confirmed cases of pertussis, a highly contagious bacterial infection that can be severe in infants and young children.

According to data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), whooping cough cases have been on the rise nationwide. While vaccination is the most effective way to prevent the spread of the disease, some areas are experiencing outbreaks due to low vaccination rates among certain populations.

The Minnesota Department of Health is urging parents to ensure their children receive all recommended vaccinations, including the Tdap vaccine, which protects against whooping cough and other serious diseases.
