Amazon MGM’s film “A Working Man” has taken the top spot at the box office, with a strong opening of $15.2 million from 3,262 theaters. This surpasses Disney’s “Snow White” remake, which had projected a second weekend of $16-18 million but is now struggling to stay in contention.
Despite mixed critical reviews, “A Working Man” has earned mostly positive reception from audiences, with a B on CinemaScore and an 84% overall rating on PostTrak. The film’s budget was reportedly $40 million, and it will aim to match the domestic and global total of Jason Statham’s last film, “The Beekeeper,” which grossed $66.2 million domestically and $162.6 million globally.
Meanwhile, Disney’s “Snow White” is falling 66% from its initial opening weekend and has now earned a two-weekend total of $66.8 million domestic and $143.1 million worldwide. The film will face stiff competition next week with Warner Bros.’ release of “A Minecraft Movie.”
Other releases in the top five include Fathom’s “The Chosen: Last Supper,” Universal/Blumhouse’s “The Woman in the Yard,” and A24’s “Death of a Unicorn.” Notable performances from specialty films include Focus Features’ British comedy “The Ballad of Wallis Island” and Sony Pictures Classics’ “The Penguin Lessons.”
As the box office continues to face challenges, it is clear that “A Working Man” has taken its place as the top earner in the latest weekend.
