Rapper A$AP Rocky was found not guilty in his felony gun trial on February 18 at the Clara Shortridge Foltz Criminal Justice Center in Los Angeles. The verdict came after a five-day contentious trial, with the prosecution accusing him of shooting his former friend and high school classmate Terell Ephron, who goes by A$AP Relli.
Ephron testified that Rocky shot at him twice with a semiautomatic handgun, causing bloody injuries to his knuckles. However, defense attorney Joseph Tacopina argued that Rocky was carrying a prop gun that only fired blanks, and that there was no evidence to support the prosecution’s theory of the crime.
The jury ultimately found not guilty, citing “plenty of reasonable doubt.” The verdict was announced just days after Rihanna, Rocky’s partner, appeared in court with their two sons. Rihanna told an AP reporter she was doing well despite the emotional trial.
A$AP Rocky is scheduled to headline the Rolling Loud music festival in California in March and co-chair the 2025 Met Gala in May. He also has a role in Spike Lee’s upcoming film, Highest 2 Lowest, which is expected to drop this summer. This acquittal marks the latest development in Rocky’s highly publicized case, which began with an arrest at age 16 on attempted murder charges and included a stint in Rikers Island.
