Rapper A$AP Rocky has been found not guilty in his felony gun trial. The verdict was handed down on February 18 at the Clara Shortridge Foltz Criminal Justice Center in Los Angeles. Rocky, whose real name is Rakim Mayers, was accused of shooting his former friend A$AP Relli in 2021.
Rocky’s defense team had argued that he did not possess a gun during the confrontation and that the prosecution’s evidence was weak. The team presented grainy surveillance footage and testimony from witnesses who claimed to have seen the disputed shell casings, but ultimately failed to prove their case.
Rihanna, Rocky’s partner, was present in court throughout the trial, bringing their two sons with her. She told reporters that she was “good” despite being under intense media scrutiny. The couple has been in a long-term relationship and shares joint custody of their children.
The verdict marks a major victory for Rocky, who had faced up to 24 years in prison if convicted. He was arrested at age 16 on attempted murder charges and served two weeks in jail before the charges were reduced. This is not Rocky’s first brush with controversy – he has been arrested multiple times throughout his career.
Rocky will next perform at the Rolling Loud music festival in California in March and co-chair the Met Gala in May. He is also expected to release a new album later this year.
