Aaron Judge Defends Juan Soto’s Mets Decision as “Great” for Yankees’ Chances

Aaron Judge wasn’t surprised by Juan Soto joining the New York Mets but disagreed with his former teammate about which team is better equipped to compete for championships.

Soto signed a 15-year, $765 million deal with the Mets this winter. Judge described him as “one of a kind” and called him “a special player.” The two had differing opinions on their teams’ chances, with Judge stating he disagreed but also happy for Soto’s decision.

Judge recently won his second AL MVP award in three years after hitting .322 last season while the Yankees reached the World Series. He expressed motivation to perform well this year due to the birth of his daughter and the desire to stay competitive.

Judge will likely play primarily in right field following a trade that brought in Cody Bellinger. When asked about Soto’s decision, Judge acknowledged it was a great opportunity for him but also said he would be battling with the Mets for years to come.
